Living in Whitefield

I think I have already written about Whitefield Then and Now? There were times when there was absolutely no development after HAL and Public transport was very minimal and those also mostly 'through buses' as they used to call. Buses coming from Chittoor and once in two hours where you had poultry, vegetable vendors, and at times if you are lucky few goats!  Even some friends used to say : surely we will drop in enroute to Chennai :) when we invited them home. And now to see there are Volvos every 5 minutes and to all locations.

When you mention Whitefield even now the Bangaloreans frown and complain about the traffic and congestion. But the best of Schools are in this part of the city. Name the School and they have a presence or are in the look out for their presence.  Same goes for any restaurants too. You also get the best of both worlds - while you have the high end Malls for great shopping, cinemas, etc., you still have Varthur Shandy every Sunday, small cinema theatres and street vendors and factory outlets too. So it is not just for the expats or rich soft ware techies, place is convenient for one and all be it the junior grade staff or the mid level or the  high level CEO's or CFO's.

Guideline value for the land has been enhanced to Rs.5000/Sft for land by the govt and with increase in costs of construction materials, and taxes galore! the rate per Sq.ft has gone up but when you consider the land prices in North Bangalore or other parts of Bangalore, Whitefield is comparatively lesser.

When you compare North Bangalore - development is there but conveniences are not as good as Whitefield. I smile when ads say, Airport is just a 20 mins drive and one wonders how many times in a day does one have to go to the Airport! Some how having lived in Whitefield for so long, even though North Bangalore has open spaces somehow I don't see the charm that one sees in Whitefield. Schools are there but not as many as you have back her in Whitefield.

If only the Govt understands the need for a flyover straight from M G Road to Whitefield which has been long overdue we will still have these traffic jams and congestions. And where don't you have congestions these days? Try and go on Richmond Road, Residency Road, inner ring roads, Bannerghatta, Indira  Nagar - where ever there are convenient and comfortable living there are these traffic issues. One is development of Roads and flyovers and the next main point to be noted is traffic discipline. If only people have patience and tolerance and follow traffic rules half the problem will be solved.

Whitefield has become self contained and if you work in this part of town, your children are in one of the good schools on Varthur Road, then there should be no complaint!
